Transition at Crossgates
At Crossgates Primary, we understand that moving into a new class can feel like a big change for both children and parents. Our transition approach is designed to help children feel safe, confident and ready to learn. We plan carefully so that children know what to expect and have opportunities to build positive relationships with their new teacher and classmates.
Supporting your child to move into their new class starts with reassurance and routine. We encourage families to talk positively about the year ahead, practise simple routines such as school bag preparation, and remind children that it is normal to feel a little nervous at first. If your child has questions, please share them with us, staff are always happy to help.
During the transition period, we provide age-appropriate opportunities for children to settle in, including familiar activities and time to explore new classroom expectations. By working together, we can make the start of the year smoother and more enjoyable. Thank you for your support in helping your child take this next step with confidence at Crossgates Primary.
Please find transition booklets below and enjoying looking at them with your child as you prepare for September 2026 together.
